Karratha 3

Image
This morning we started early with a bike ride around the block. Pretty rocky and lose surface. Petra didn’t like it at all. The rode the the top of the hill and enjoyed the view.  Back, we had brekki and put our awning on because we will stay here until End of November.  Later we baked an orange& poppyseed cake and 2 loaves of sourdough bread. All good. Coffee & cake 🎂 in the afternoon before a long session of cards. As night felt Thomas made some apple pancakes with apple purée. Then was movie time before we went to bed 🛌

This morning after our breakfast we drove into town to the local bicycle shop to get Petra’s rear tyre fixed. Went around CBD and checked the local work situation. Found at Coles some work and will do our introduction on Friday. How crazy. After 3 hours the tyre was fixed. The nights are getting colder

After our suspicions night Petra found out on Facebook that there was maybe a bug or a little insect which crawled on a sensor. Packed down and left Onslow. Back on Highway 1 we had a quick stop at a roadhouse, not very nice and drove directly to Karratha. Nice town, not cheap campground. After we settled we drove into town to look around. After our little tour we went to the beach lookout and then back for a big car wash. The car was with salt spots covered and we had to get rid of this.  Back at the caravan we had dinner and and lazy evening.

Onslow

A bit of a sad morning because we will lose today our travel buddies. A quick breakfast and pack down we said good bye to them and hit the road in two different directions.  The road to Onslow brought us back to Nanutarra road house. Stop for coffee. Straight back on the highway and passed only scrub’s, rocks and mine sites. Onslow is known for their salt industry. Plenty of salt lakes.  Checked in on one of the best campgrounds so far. Bit expensive but well maintained. Windy 🌬. We had a walk along the boardwalk and learned something about the history of Onslow.  Dinner and a good sleep. Until 1.45 when the car alarm went off. Thomas went out and checked but nothing was to see. Back to sleep. 2 hours later same thing again. Thomas went out, opened the car, checked and closed it again. Nothing and nobody was seen.

Giralia station

Today was another day of driving, to Giralia station around 500 km. We left Tom Price 7.30 am and took the longer route. Drove through 2 mining towns, houses, pub, fuel station and school. Boring!!!!!! We had a quick stop at Nanuttara road house, coffee & sandwich . Boring drive until we reached Giralia station.  Check in and Helen & David had already a drink ready for us. Quick setup and Thomas was off for collecting fire wood 🪵. Helen did a fantastic chilli con carne.  We made fire at the fire pit and had our delicious dinner with rice, tacos and sour cream. Great fun around the fire, couple of drinks and another couple joint us at the 🔥. This was our last night together with our travel buddies. Tomorrow we will separate after nearly 4 weeks of travelling. Great couple and we will meet them again. They will head south and we will go to Onslow.  Great sleep on the farm, only the wind to hear. The farm was really interesting, open window shower and all in the old shearer’s q

Lazy start this morning, after brekki some washing and get ready for today’s adventure. Hamersley Gorge. Short drive out of town, then 45 km gravel road. Dropped tyre pressure and we went off. Good nice smooth drive. Reached the Gorge, looked down and then we went down this long step descent to the bottom.  Stripped down and jumped into the water, nice and cool, good swim. After a nice lap Thomas & Helen climbed up to the spa pool. What a great spot. Picture time and back up long steep climb. Drove back into town for quick shopping and lazy rest of the day. Started to pack down for tomorrow.
