Hahndorf 2

Image
After a rainy night we discovered that we had a leak in the bathroom roof window.🤮 We left early because our car needed it’s 45000 km service in Adelaide. Quick drop off, breakfast in town, pick up car, dinner shopping and back to Hahndorf. In the afternoon we went for a walk through town. Very expensive German looking town with a strange interpretation of Germany 🇩🇪  Back at the caravan we made real German food. Bread crumbed schnitzel with potatoes salad. Yummy and much cheaper. Petra did some washing and Thomas cleaned and prepared the bicycles.

Over night it started to rain and it cooled down. After breakfast we had a wet pack up and drove only 40 km to our next stop Hahndorf. It rained the whole drive. But it was fantastic to drive through the beginning of Barossa valley and the Adelaide hills wine area’s.  Hahndorf is huge compared to former visits. Nice camping park, quick setup, all day rain. Went food shopping, back to camp, dinner and 🛌

Birdwood

This morning we had time and enjoyed a long breakfast with bacon and eggs 🍳. Today we only had to drive 200 km to Birdwood to camp on a sheep farm. The drive was not hard and we refuelled short time after we started. Lovely drive through the country site and Gawler the gate to the Barossa valley. Nice town.  Setup on the farm and next to us was a huge Rolls Royce car show in the car museum of Birdwood. Great to see so old car’s. We had coffee and later dinner.

Port Augusta

This morning we had a very quick breakfast and packed up. Thomas discovered 2 unwanted passengers on our caravan. First he got rid of a bigger spider which traveled with us in the front storage for we don’t know how long and then the jackpot. A red back spider 🕷 on the jockey wheel. A bit scary because this little friend can be very dangerous. Thomas got rid of her too. Our next stop was around 500 km away so we drove with only 1 stop in the next little village for coffee.  Great little funny coffee shop with fantastic owners. We drove through Kimba which is a little town halfway of Australia from east to west. Quick stop for a photo and a chat to some travellers  We passed Port Augusta, busy town with mining industry around and a lot of traffic. We camped near an old church with some lovely other campers. Dinner and last sun baking

Nullarbor 3

This morning we wanted to see the sunrise but it was too cloudy ⛅️ and the sun 🌞 came out later but still amazing. We had breakfast 🍳 and started towards Ceduna. Stopped at the Nullarbor road house for coffee and a quick break. Endless enjoyable km until we reached Ceduna and the quarantine station. Quick check on our food, all good to go. Refuelled and emptied our toilet box. Decided not to stay in Ceduna, a bit strange town and drove around 100 km further and stopped on a car park next to the road in the middle of nowhere. At night we got company from a truck driver who stopped next to us. Little bit noisy night with all the traffic and an alarm went off…not ours this time

This morning we stood up late and had a quick breakfast. Weather was not so good today and we packed up quickly. Back on the highway 🛣 we recognised a slight time change of 30 min forward to Western Australian Central Time. Then we reached the border to South Australia and whoop another 1 1/2 hours have been gone. We decided to camp along the amazing cliffs. We found an outstanding spot on the cliffs with several other campers. What a great spot. Quick setup and cooking session because we couldn’t take fresh fruit and vegetables over to Ceduna. We cooked mushroom cream sauce, sautéed onions and garlic, caramelised apples and porcini raviolis.  Dinner and preparing for the sun downer. The sun goes down in the west and from the same spot you can watch the sunrise from the east.  Quiet night with spectacular views of the Milky Way and the star’s
